Environmental Technician

Duties / Responsibilities

Basic Functions:
  • Responsibility for electrical preventative and routine maintenance on all equipment associated with the environmental systems at the plant (baghouses, water treatment systems, loading of hazardous waste)
  • Sampling, inspection, permit compliance, environmental management, and other environmental duties
  • Proper handling and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes and spills
  • Emergency response activities for spills or other environmental releases
  • Documented inspections of pollution control equipment and compliance areas
  • 3 + years of mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience
  • Experience with air monitoring and/or water sampling equipment
  • Experience in maintenance of water systems including pumps
  • Experience in maintenance of dust collection systems
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Technical degree
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety/housekeeping
  • Proven problem solving skills and experience in troubleshooting equipment and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively in a team environment
  • Written and verbal communication skills to communicate with maintenance and production personnel
  • Technical aptitude or proven maintenance skill set
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational skills


  • Experience in related industry: Water systems operations, water chemistry analysis, baghouse/emissions control operations, CEMS, pollution control equipment, mechanical maintenance (emphasis on pumps, motors, and valves)
  • Mechanical/electrical troubleshooting and/or preventative maintenance program experience
  • VFD, AC motors, and motor control experience
  • PLC system building, programming, and troubleshooting experience
  • Training in ISO 14001, HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT, Method 9 and other aspects of environmental compliance
