Overview:

A well-established and growing flat-rolled steel processor seeks an Assistant Plant Manager to support day-to-day operations at its state-of-the-art facility in northeast Indiana. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and is ideal for someone with strong leadership ability, a hands-on mindset, and a desire to grow into a plant leadership role in the near future.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Production Supervisor or Foreman ready to take the next step into senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, train, and manage personnel across scheduling, production, maintenance, and logistics

• Promote employee development, engagement, and retention

• Drive continuous improvement in safety, productivity, and process efficiency

• Ensure equipment is maintained and fully operational

• Oversee consistent execution of SOPs and adherence to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards

• Manage plant-related purchasing and supplier negotiations

• Control plant spending and production-related costs

• Oversee production scheduling to optimize throughput and meet customer deadlines

• Ensure production goals for quality and volume are consistently met

• Provide accurate job cost quotations

• Monitor outbound shipment schedules

• Coordinate with internal teams: Sales, Purchasing, Quality, and Shipping

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in a steel service center or related metals industry (preferred)

• Experience with slitters (coil and flat), overhead cranes, and forklifts required

• 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role (preferred)

• Strong communication and leadership skills

• Customer-focused approach with attention to quality and safety

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
