Civil Designer

Our client is an environmental and engineering consulting firm with a growing civil survey group based in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Their clients include large and small energy clients in the Oil & Gas and Renewable energy markets. We support energy clients (traditional O&G and renewables) and projects on a national scale.
Our client is seeking a Civil Designer to join their team. The Civil Designer position provides technical support in our client’s fast growing engineering department. The successful candidate will work with the engineering staff to provide permitting and design support for a variety of projects within the energy industry, including oil and gas and renewable energy (solar) generation projects. Regular activities will include permitting and design tasks associated with gathering and transmission pipelines and associated facilities; gas well pads; distribution pipelines; electric distribution lines; and solar energy development projects. Civil Designers may also provide engineering support for private land development projects. This position is full time with benefits.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Produces civil site, water resources, site restoration, stormwater, and construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Produces grading and drainage plans, utility plans, erosion control plans, and stormwater management plans and profiles.
- Assists with engineering design tasks, including pipeline alignment and profiles, pad and road grading, resource impact exhibits, and quantity takeoffs.
- Demonstrates ability to integrate data
- Drafts details and specifications
- Develops task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner
- Performs tasks on schedule and within budget as assigned
- Works independently under the guidance of a Project Engineer
- Uses professional judgment to direct and independently complete assigned design tasks.
- Provides value-oriented design suggestions, review drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards.
- Checks the accuracy (formal and informal QA/QC) of assigned tasks completed by other engineering and technical staff.
- Makes major design decisions that meet the needs of external customers while coordinating the impact of such decisions on related project efforts.
- Proactively identifies technical, schedule, or financial issues and seeks resolution from the Project Manager or Project Engineer, as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Associates (A.S.) degree or higher from an accredited college or trade school.
- Minimum of 3 years of design experience.
- AutoCAD Civil3D, Stormwater Design Software (HydroCAD, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Proficient in site layout, grading, drainage, utility design, erosion control, and regulatory approvals.
- E&S and stormwater design and calculation experience preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of integrity with strong emphasis on making and meeting commitments.
- High sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize to meet required deadlines.
- Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check.
