Director of Business Development (Construction)

Our client is one of the finest employee-owned general contractors in the USA, with nearly 100 years in business, and over 40 years supporting the Phoenix & Tucson area in a variety of project sectors (commercial, industrial, & multi-family).

They seek an experienced business developer, familiar with the challenges of selling construction services to discerning owners in the Phoenix / Tucson market.

  • Build a pipeline of opportunities to support growth in a large market, and participate in the strategic direction and success of the company.

  • Utilize the advantage of having a strong national reputation (12 offices, ENR top 150-ranking), and 40 years of local market knowledge and subcontractor relationships.
  • Annual goal is to generate $100m/year in new work.
  • Report directly to one of the top overall officers in the company.
  • Supported by ops director, VP of Preconstruction, and a marketing coordinator. Marketing coordinator will be a direct report.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Development
    • Supports client brand and position in local market.
    • Develop key internal and external relationships to advance acquisition efforts.
    • Understand client needs in key market sectors.
    • Train and educate non-BD staff to help foster culture of business development.
  • CRM
    • Use Cosential as a BD tool.
    • Diligently enter and update contacts and opportunities.
    • Track leads and opportunities.
    • Provide consistent internal reporting and communication.
  • Marketing
    • Lead planning and execution of marketing plans and activities.
    • Oversee collateral and public presence.
    • Internal communications.
    • External Communications.
  • Project Acquisition
    • Develop consistent pipeline of leads and opportunities aligned with business plan.
    • Preposition and develop “zippered” relationships in advance of RFP.
    • Appropriately involve other departments in the pursuit process.
    • Lead the RFP/Q process and accountability for client proposals.

Compensation includes exciting base salary, bonus, ESOP benefits, best-in-class health/life benefits, vehicle benefits ($850/month allowance), entertaining and marketing budgets, etc.
