Project Controls Engineer

Overview:
Seeking an experienced Project Controls professional to lead and coordinate all aspects of project controls for a major capital project. This role involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including OEMs, engineering partners, and contractors. Key responsibilities include estimating, budget management, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement project controls strategies and requirements.
  • Evaluate bid proposals focusing on cost, schedule, change management, and contract documentation.
  • Lead the development of project estimates, budgets, schedules, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Perform cost benchmarking and validation of contractor bids.
  • Manage cost control systems, invoice processing, cost reporting, variance analysis, and cash flow.
  • Oversee change management, contingency planning, and budget control.
  • Lead scheduling activities including development and monitoring of project timelines.
  • Facilitate project risk assessments and mitigation planning.
  • Prepare and distribute progress, cost, and schedule reports.
  • Ensure integration of estimating, scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
  • Ensure proper cost accounting and invoice processing.
  • Support contract administration and provide general project administration.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in large industrial construction projects.
  • Experience as a Project Controls Engineer or Cost Control Engineer on a very large project ($500M+), with at least one full project completed from concept to asset capitalization and financial closeout.
  • Strong project cost control skillset with proven ability to deliver diligent cost reporting and accurate forecasting on large-scale projects.
  • Certified Cost Professional or Certified Estimating Professional.
  • BS/MS in construction or engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, and cost control.
  • Proficient in SAP for tracking incurred/booked costs, invoice accounting, and financial integration.
  • Skilled in monitoring and tracking both potential and actual project changes in terms of cost and schedule.
  • Hands-on experience with estimation and scheduling tools, particularly Primavera P6.
  • Proficiency in cost control and estimating software such as Icarus, Sage Timberline, or similar.

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Affiliation with AACE or Project Controls Academy.
  • Familiarity with benchmarking bodies like Compass International.
  • Leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Background in estimating and cost control on large-scale projects.
