Senior Software Engineer

ZSG

Join a rapidly growing leader in the metals manufacturing industry that’s transforming how technology and production come together. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with 10+ years of experience to take a pivotal role in driving the digital evolution of our advanced manufacturing systems.

As a key member of our engineering team, you’ll lead the development of high-performance, data-rich software systems that connect real-time IoT inputs, machine data, and operator feedback. Your work will directly power increased efficiency, product quality, and delivery reliability—foundations of our continued success and industry leadership.

This is a hands-on, onsite role at our state-of-the-art Newark, Ohio facility, giving you the opportunity to collaborate closely with production teams, engineers, and operations leaders while building the digital backbone of our manufacturing processes.

Why This Role Matters:

As part of a company that’s experiencing significant growth in the metals sector, your contributions will help shape the future of smart manufacturing. We are investing heavily in cutting-edge digital infrastructure, and your expertise will drive that innovation from concept through implementation across multiple facilities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Architect and develop scalable Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) using a mix of Jython, T-SQL, MQL, industrial IoT platforms, and PLC integration.
  • Lead agile software development cycles using SysML modeling techniques (use cases, sequence diagrams, wireframes) to deliver clear and maintainable solutions.
  • Build reusable, modular software components that can be configured and deployed at multiple production sites, standardizing excellence across the enterprise.
  • Create intuitive, real-time dashboards that visualize manufacturing KPIs such as OEE, product quality, downtime tracking, and machine status.
  • Analyze machine and production data to surface actionable insights, drive lean initiatives, and optimize throughput.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, plant operators, data analysts, and business stakeholders to translate complex operational needs into scalable digital tools.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to long-term architecture decisions that support high availability, reliability, and performance at scale.

What You Bring:

  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong foundation in application architecture and design
  • 3–5 years of experience leading development teams, owning software delivery, and making architectural decisions
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (Java, Python, C#.Net), T-SQL, and database schema design
  • Deep understanding of system architecture, software reusability, and agile development practices
  • Experience working with manufacturing data, industrial systems, and integrating with PLCs or control systems
  • Familiarity with Digital Twin technologies, MES platforms, or smart factory ecosystems is a major plus
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected status) due to project and regulatory requirements

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to make a real impact in a high-growth industry leader poised to redefine manufacturing with technology
  • A collaborative, innovation-driven environment that values curiosity and continuous learning
  • The chance to work on mission-critical systems that affect real-world production and business outcomes
  • Competitive salary and full benefits package

If you’re passionate about solving real-world problems with elegant software and want to play a key role in the digital transformation of a thriving industrial powerhouse, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply now and help us forge the future of metals manufacturing.
