Outside Sales Representative – Flat Rolled Steel

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Outside Sales Representative to join a growing steel service center focused on flat rolled carbon products throughout the Chicagoland market. This individual will be responsible for developing new business, managing existing accounts, and growing market share across manufacturers, OEMs, fabricators, and metal stampers.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience selling flat rolled steel products and a strong understanding of the Chicago industrial market. This is a highly visible role with significant opportunity for long-term growth and uncapped earnings potential.
Responsibilities
- Develop and grow a territory focused on flat rolled steel sales throughout the Chicago market
- Manage existing customer relationships while aggressively pursuing new business opportunities
- Sell products including hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, galvannealed, HRPO, coated products, slit coil, sheet, and blanks
- Work closely with purchasing, operations, and processing teams to ensure customer satisfaction and on-time delivery
- Manage pricing, margin expectations, and contract negotiations
- Track market trends, mill pricing, and competitive activity throughout the region
- Maintain regular customer visits, plant tours, and face-to-face meetings within the territory
- Coordinate forecasting and inventory planning based on customer demand
- Represent the company professionally within the metals community and industrial marketplace
Qualifications
- 3+ years of steel industry sales experience preferred
- Prior experience selling flat rolled carbon steel products required
- Existing relationships within the Chicago manufacturing and industrial market strongly preferred
- Understanding of steel processing including slitting, cut-to-length, blanking, or toll processing is a plus
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated hunter mentality with the ability to grow a territory independently
- Ability to travel throughout the Chicagoland area regularly
