This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy being on the plant floor, troubleshooting complex systems in real time, and driving meaningful improvements in reliability, safety, and productivity.

You will work directly with maintenance, operations, and project teams to support large-scale industrial equipment and continuously improve electrical and automation systems across a 24/7 manufacturing environment. This is not a desk-only engineering role—expect significant time in the field working with equipment, operators, and technicians to solve real problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize electrical and control system improvements across production equipment
  • Lead and support capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives from concept through commissioning
  • Troubleshoot and optimize PLCs, HMIs, drives, motors, sensors, and industrial control systems
  • Develop, update, and maintain electrical standards, drawings, specifications, and documentation
  • Support reliability improvements through data analysis, failure analysis, and system optimization
  • Collaborate closely with maintenance technicians, engineers, and production leadership to improve equipment uptime and process performance
  • Actively promote and enforce a strong safety culture in all engineering and operational activities

Safety Expectations

Safety is a core responsibility of every role in the organization. This position requires a proactive commitment to identifying hazards, improving systems, and ensuring compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and best

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or 5+ years of relevant industrial electrical/automation engineering experience in lieu of degree
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment (or equivalent hands-on controls/electrical experience)
  • Experience troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and industrial power/control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment

Preferred Experience

  • Steel manufacturing, metals processing, or continuous heavy industrial operations
  • Experience in melting, casting, rolling, or finishing environments
  • Capital project management and equipment commissioning experience
  • Root cause failure analysis and structured continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)

Preferred Technical Skills

  • PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley / Siemens preferred)
  • Industrial power distribution systems (low/medium voltage)
  • Industrial networking and automation systems (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, etc.)
  • AutoCAD Electrical or similar drafting/documentation tools
  • Data analysis tools for equipment performance and reliability improvement

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Highly hands-on engineering role on the plant floor, not office-bound
  • Direct impact on uptime, production performance, and reliability of large-scale equipment
  • Opportunity to own and lead capital and automation improvement projects end-to-end
  • Work in a fast-paced, highly technical industrial environment with strong engineering support culture
