Plant Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Plant Superintendent to provide operational leadership for a large-scale steelmaking department within an integrated steel manufacturing facility. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for overseeing steelmaking operations, maintenance, production planning, and departmental performance while driving safety, reliability, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead all steelmaking operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable production performance.
- Direct a team of approximately 7 salaried leaders and 200+ hourly employees.
- Oversee departmental maintenance activities and coordinate efforts to maximize equipment reliability and uptime.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, cost control, and operational excellence.
- Lead and support capital projects, technology upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
- Manage production planning and coordination to achieve business objectives and customer commitments.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Foster strong working relationships with hourly employees and frontline leadership while developing future talent within the organization.
- Utilize data-driven decision making to optimize mass and energy balances, process efficiency, and overall plant performance.
- Partner with engineering, maintenance, procurement, and other support functions to achieve operational goals.
Qualifications
Required
- Extensive experience in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking operations.
- Proven success in a Plant Superintendent, Melt Shop Superintendent, Steelmaking Superintendent, or equivalent leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in steelmaking processes and operations.
- Experience managing large production teams in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated leadership of maintenance, operations, and production planning functions.
- Proven track record of executing capital projects and implementing operational improvements.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and team development skills.
Preferred
- Experience with:
- Vacuum Tank Degasser (VTD) operations
- Ladle Metallurgy Furnace (LMF/LRF) operations
- Refractory management and optimization
- EAF spray cooling systems
- Energy and mass balance management
- Environmental compliance and hazardous waste management
- Baghouse operations and reporting
- Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Colorado environmental and regulatory requirements.
