Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Expected Annual Earnings: $95,000–$120,000 initially, with long-term earning potential approaching $150,000
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, primarily Monday through Thursday
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician for a long-term opportunity with a Fortune 100 steel manufacturing operation in Birmingham, Alabama.
This position will perform hands-on electrical maintenance and troubleshooting while supporting a planned facility transition into the Birmingham mill. The selected technician will assist with equipment relocation, installation, startup, and commissioning before joining the mill’s permanent electrical maintenance team.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems and production equipment
- Provide shift-based electrical maintenance coverage to support plant uptime
- Diagnose electrical failures and complete repairs safely and efficiently
- Perform preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment
- Assist with equipment teardown and removal during the facility transition
- Support electrical installation, startup, and commissioning at the Birmingham mill
- Work closely with production, maintenance, and mill electrical personnel
- Provide weekend maintenance support when required
Qualifications
- Industrial electrician or electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong industrial electrical troubleshooting and repair skills
- Experience supporting production machinery and plant equipment
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts and rotating schedules
- Willingness to provide occasional weekend preventive-maintenance coverage
- Ability to transition permanently into the Birmingham mill operation
- Heavy industrial, metals, steel, or mill experience is preferred
Schedule
- Primarily 12-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday
- Weekend work may be required for scheduled preventive maintenance
- Shift assignments and rotations may change according to production and business needs
Compensation
- Hourly rate will be in the $35-44/hr range (dependent on experience).
- Initial expected annual earnings of approximately $95,000–$120,000
- All Nucor employees are eligible for the company-wide annual profit-sharing bonus (15-25% average)
- Long-term earning potential of approximately $150,000 after transitioning into the mill electrician compensation structure
- Actual earnings will depend on experience, shift assignments, overtime, and business needs
Facility Transition
The operation is expected to transition into the Birmingham mill in Q1 of 2027. Electrical Technicians will help support equipment removal, relocation, installation, and startup before moving into permanent mill electrical positions.
