Schedule: Monday–Friday, normal business hours (8a-5p)
Work Arrangement: Full-Time & On-site
Travel: Infrequent travel for meetings and training
About the Opportunity
A Fortune 150 steel product manufacturer is seeking an experience Lead Software Engineer to join their team at one of their divisions across multiple locations. This position combines hands-on software engineering, people leadership, and industrial equipment integration. You will lead and mentor a production software team while developing systems that connect shop-floor equipment with manufacturing and enterprise applications. Your work will influence technology and architecture across multiple divisions throughout the United States and Canada.
Location Requirements
Candidates must live within commuting distance of an approved company division or be willing to relocate to work on-site. Location preferences, in order, are:
- Norfolk, Nebraska — first preference
- Chemung, New York — second preference
- Alabama division — third preference, subject to office availability and hiring-manager approval
Other company divisions in SC, UT, or IN may be considered individually based on office availability and approval. This position requires regular on-site attendance and is not remote.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop software engineers, providing clear expectations, technical guidance, and accountability.
- Design, develop, and support manufacturing and production applications using C# and .NET.
- Integrate software with PLCs, sensors, cameras, HMIs, and production equipment.
- Connect manufacturing execution systems (MES), SQL databases, ERP platforms, and cloud applications.
- Develop and support solutions using Ignition and/or Litmus.
- Conduct code reviews, guide architecture decisions, and improve testing, security, and DevOps practices.
- Partner with production, controls, automation, and business teams to improve equipment connectivity and manufacturing performance.
- Support manufacturing data collection, visualization, and analytics while upholding plant safety standards.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- 3+ years leading technical teams or software development projects, with demonstrated experience coaching people, developing teammates, and holding a team accountable.
- A strong software engineering foundation and sufficient C#/.NET depth to guide developers and contribute technically.
- Practical experience connecting software with industrial hardware, PLCs, or production equipment.
- A genuine interest in people leadership and hands-on manufacturing technology.
- Ability to work on-site at an approved division and travel infrequently.
Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred. Candidates from other equipment-focused environments may also be considered if they bring relevant software, hardware integration, and leadership experience.
Preferred Technical Experience
- C#, .NET, SQL Server, and Visual Studio.
- Ignition, Litmus, MES, or Industrial IoT platforms.
- Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other industrial PLC systems.
- OPC-UA, MQTT, REST APIs, and industrial communication protocols.
- Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development.
- Data historians, Grafana, InfluxDB, or similar analytics tools.
- Blazor, WPF, web applications, and cloud-hosted solutions.
- OT/IT networking and industrial cybersecurity.
Compensation and Benefits
- $117,000–$135,000 base salary.
