Sales Engineer

ZSG

THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a Sales Engineer to help develop competitive solutions for complex pre-engineered metal building projects. The role combines structural engineering, estimating, value engineering, and customer collaboration to influence design strategy and project economics. This is a technical, consultative position rather than a traditional quota-carrying sales role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate complex building opportunities using structural design software and advanced estimating tools.
  • Develop structural solutions that balance customer requirements, product capabilities, cost, constructability, and business risk.
  • Identify value-engineering opportunities to improve structural efficiency and overall project economics.
  • Partner with sales representatives, builders, and customers to address technical questions and establish project strategies early in the process.
  • Oversee estimates and provide technical guidance to quote engineers and estimators.
  • Collaborate with design, estimating, and sales leadership to improve processes and develop competitive project solutions.
  • Mentor technical team members and support the continued development of engineering and estimating practices.
  • Provide remote and in-person technical support, with approximately 25% travel, including occasional short-notice trips.
  • Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.

Why Consider This Role

  • Move beyond the design desk: Apply your engineering expertise on the front end of opportunities, directly influencing design strategy, customer solutions, project economics, and the company’s ability to win work.
  • Career growth: Gain experience that can support advancement into supervisory or management positions across sales, design, detailing, estimating, and other functions.
  • Broad professional development: Build a deeper understanding of the business through exposure to engineering, product capabilities, estimating, customer relationships, and commercial decision-making.
  • Stability: Join an established organization with exceptional employee retention and a division where employees build careers spanning decades.
  • Strong division performance: Work with a successful operation experiencing substantial business volume and increasingly large, technically challenging projects.
  • Ownership and impact: Join a collaborative culture that values initiative, trust, innovation, and individual responsibility, giving strong performers opportunities to make meaningful contributions.
