Mechanical Design Engineer

Cayce / Columbia, SC | On-site | $60,000–$85,000

An well-established manufacturer of custom mechanical equipment is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Columbia, South Carolina area.

Develop your engineering skills through varied design projects, direct mentorship, and hands-on exposure to manufacturing. You’ll design equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and water-heating systems while working closely with a small engineering team.

Engineers with approximately 1–2 years of experience are encouraged to apply. Strong recent graduates with relevant CAD projects, internships, and practical mechanical aptitude will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models, mechanical drawings, and complete engineering design packages.
• Customize equipment designs to meet customer specifications and manufacturing requirements.
• Perform mechanical engineering calculations as needed.
• Collaborate with engineering, sales, and production to develop practical solutions.
• Help troubleshoot fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing issues.
• Learn applicable ASME requirements, welding processes, and equipment design standards.
• Take ownership of increasingly complex projects with guidance from experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Solid engineering foundation; a Mechanical Engineering degree or closely related technical background is preferred.
• Experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, or comparable 3D mechanical CAD software. Academic projects and internships count.
• Practical mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication, initiative, and willingness to work closely with manufacturing.
• Ability to work primarily on-site in the Cayce / Columbia area.

Experience with HVAC equipment, pressure vessels, tanks, boilers, heat exchangers, or welded fabrication is helpful. Autodesk Inventor, ASME, and welding knowledge are preferred rather than required.

• $60,000–$85,000 base salary, depending on experience.
