Superintendent / Quality Control Manager (QCM) – VA Hospital Renovations

Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Superintendent / QCM to lead field operations and quality control on VA hospital renovation projects. This role is critical in managing construction within active, occupied medical facilities, requiring strong coordination, infection control awareness, and strict adherence to federal quality standards.
You’ll be responsible for executing phased renovations with minimal disruption to hospital operations while ensuring full compliance with VA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and/or Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Superintendent Duties:
- Lead day-to-day construction operations within occupied VA medical centers
- Manage complex phasing plans, shutdowns, and tie-ins for MEP systems
- Coordinate subcontractors to maintain schedule while minimizing disruption to staff and patients
- Enforce site safety and hospital-specific protocols (noise, dust, access control)
- Collaborate with hospital staff, facility managers, and infection control teams
- Conduct daily huddles and maintain detailed field reports
Quality Control Manager (QCM) Duties:
- Implement and manage the project-specific Quality Control Plan in accordance with VA standards
- Conduct Three Phases of Control (Preparatory, Initial, Follow-Up)
- Ensure all work complies with contract documents, VA specs, and approved submittals
- Manage submittals, RFIs, and RMS (Resident Management System) documentation
- Coordinate inspections, testing, and commissioning activities
- Track deficiencies, punchlist items, and corrective actions
- Lead and prepare for VA/USACE inspections and audits
Healthcare / VA-Specific Requirements
- Experience working in occupied healthcare environments (VA preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) procedures
- Familiarity with Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and hospital compliance standards
- Ability to plan and execute after-hours work, shutdowns, and critical system tie-ins
- Experience with medical gas, HVAC, and critical power systems is a plus
Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of experience in construction, with federal healthcare project experience strongly preferred
- Prior experience as a Superintendent and/or QCM on VA, USACE, or NAVFAC projects
- Active QCM Certification (required for most federal projects)
- Proficiency in Procore, RMS, or similar platforms
- Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and phasing plans
- Excellent communication skills—especially in high-stakes, patient-care environments
